About the event
My retreats are open to all levels. Whether you’re relatively new to yoga or have been practising for years, you’ll be supported to explore the practice at your own pace. Together we’ll journey through Vinyasa, Yin, Kundalini, meditation, pranayama, chakra philosophy and sound healing—not simply as individual classes, but as a complete yogic experience designed to nourish the body, quieten the mind and create space for meaningful transformation.
Throughout the retreat, we’ll explore the chakra system through both the traditional wisdom of yoga and our modern understanding of the nervous system and endocrine system. Each practice is thoughtfully designed to help you understand not only the philosophy behind the teachings, but also how they may influence the body, breath and mind in a practical, embodied way.
Yoga Practices

Yin Yoga: Slower, long-held postures that encourage deep release and nervous system regulation.

More about Ananda
I’m Madeline Diaz Meiners, known in my teaching as Ananda, and the founder of Ananda Yoga Retreats.
Yoga has been at the heart of my life for over 28 years. What began as a personal practice gradually evolved into teaching and, over time, creating retreats where others could experience the depth, wisdom and transformative nature of these ancient practices within a supportive community.
For the past 15 years, I have taught yoga, facilitated teacher trainings and led retreats, sharing practices drawn from Ashtanga Vinyasa, Yin Yoga, Kundalini, meditation, breathwork and sound healing. My teaching is rooted in the wider philosophy of yoga, inviting students to explore not only the physical practice, but also the profound connection between body, breath and mind.
A central part of my teaching is making traditional yogic wisdom accessible and relevant to modern life. I enjoy exploring the chakra system alongside our understanding of the nervous system and endocrine system, helping students appreciate both the ancient philosophy and the physiological effects these practices may have on the body and mind.
My work has also been deeply influenced by teachers including Tara Brach, Ram Dass and Michael Singer, whose teachings on mindfulness, compassion and self-inquiry continue to shape the way I practise, teach and hold space for others.
Whether on retreat in Ibiza or the Lake District, my intention is to create an environment where every detail is thoughtfully taken care of, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the experience. These retreats are an invitation to step away from the demands of everyday life, reconnect with yourself, deepen your understanding of yoga, and become part of a community that often continues long after the retreat has ended.
Vinyasa Flow
From Sanskrit ‘To place in a special way’, Vinyasa aligns a deliberate sequence of poses with the breath to strengthen our mind and body connection. A portal into self enquiry and discovery, where the emphasis lays less on the external and more on the internal. Moving one breath, one movement in a dynamic and explorative flow to increase and move any stagnant energy within. An opportunity to reconnect, to unravel and ignite our inner fire, not to find but to reconnect with our true self.
Each practice will begin with Pranayama (breath work)and/ or Meditation to bring us into a state of introspection, before moving through carefully curated movements designed to cultivate more of an equilibrium within the body moving both functionally, creatively and playfully. Drawing upon influences of Mandala Yoga, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Rocket and yin weaved with Ancient Yogic Philosophy. A chance to deepen your practice and reconnect with yourself.
Yin Yoga, Kundalini and sound
Yin works on the subconscious mind, unravelling the stuff we never truly dealt with at the opportune moment when it was held in the conscious mind. As a modern society of suppressants and consumers, we have become masterful at avoiding any kind of emotional discomfort. Over time, all our residual traumas become so deeply ingrained into the subtle fascia layers of our bodies, that they form part of the pysche, lurking deep within, waiting to be later triggered over and over again.
When you practice Yin yoga, you are creating nuturing space within the body and mind, to be present and to experience all of your emotions in full without the feeling of overwhelment. Learning the art of softening, of letting go, and allowing your emotions be present encourages the body to heal and release. Suppressing our feelings day by day becomes exhausting on the mind. Yin yoga creates an internal environment which encourages the mind and body to let go of emotions that aren't serving us well, and become aware of the things that need more of our attention. This helps work through mental blockages and find more peace, as the practice heals us deeply on a cellular level.
Kundalini Yoga is the yoga of awareness. We systematically train our mind and attune our body to hold higher frequencies of energy associated with Kundalini and consciousness, releasing blockages to the reservoirs of untapped energy within us, balancing the subtle sytems of nadis (energy channels) and realigning the chakras. When energy moves freely through the chakras, it stimulates the mental, physical, and spiritual health of the being. There is a clarity that arises that combines perception, thought, and intuition. Kundalini Yoga is known to assist change and self-limiting habit, bringing equilibrium to the glandular system and revitalising the nervous systems.
